Glenn Russell Bandy, 83, died Dec. 26 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Bandy worked in the Office of Space Utilization for more than 20 years, retiring in 1980 as space administrator II. Memorials: Champaign County Humane Society.
Anna M. Birks, 74, died Dec 10 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Gibson City. Birks worked as a chief clerk of Campus Parking for 17 years until her retirement in 1997.
John Raymond Carroll Jr., 86, died Dec. 27 at Clark-Lindsey Village, Urbana. Carroll was a professor of mechanical engineering at the UI from 1948 to 1975. Memorials: Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church, 102 N. State St., Champaign, IL 61820; or the American Cancer Society.
Elmer M. “Turk” Edwards, 90, died Dec. 11. Edwards worked for the UI Press for 21 years, retiring in 1985. Memorials: Champaign-Urbana Kiwanis Club or the Champaign County Humane Society.
James Wessel Gerdemann, 87, died Dec. 19. Gerdemann was a professor of plant pathology for 33 years, retiring in 1981. Memorials: Gerdemann Botanical Garden Endowment Fund, “View the Future,” P.O. Box 443, Yachats, OR 97498.
Glenn Hanson, 87, died Dec. 19 in Spring Valley, Wis. Hanson, a professor of journalism and of communication, taught at the UI for 32 years, retiring in 1986. Memorials: Adoray Home Health and Hospice Care in Baldwin, Wis.
Clyde F. Helm, 96, died Dec. 6 at Meadowbrook Health Center, Urbana. Helm worked as business manager for the computer science department for 14 years, retiring in 1981.
Wanda L. Hopp, 73, died Dec. 17 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. Hopp was an extra help worker in food service from 1981 to 1986. Memorials: Provena Hospice program.
Robert I. Hulsizer Jr., 88, died April 30 at Sherrill House, Boston. Hulsizer, a professor of physics, taught at the UI from 1950 to 1965. Virginia R. Ivens died April 6 in Champaign. Ivens, a professor of parasitology in the College of Veterinary Medicine for 37 years, retired in 1988.
Nancy B. Lindell, 80, died Dec. 12. Lindell worked at the UI Library for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1989. Her part- and full-time work was in various departments, although the majority of her service was in the acquisitions department. Memorials: Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church or the Champaign County Humane Society.
Molly Ann Mack, 58, died Dec. 10 in Champaign. Mack had been a professor of linguistics at the UI since 1985.
Violet Marie Malone, 72, died Feb. 2 in Ferndale, Wash. Malone, a professor of agriculture, worked at the UI from 1972 until 1991.
The Rev. Osborne George Munroe, 90, died Dec. 14 at Good Samaritans Nursing Home, Stillwater, Minn. Munroe worked at the Illini Union for 15 years, retiring in 1984 as supervisor of student services.
Wilma Newcomb, 88, died Dec. 10 at Amber Glen, Urbana. Newcomb worked as a clerk III in Admissions and Records for 22 years, retiring in 1985. She continued to work in the same unit until 1996 as extra help. Memorials: First Presbyterian Church of Tolono.
Merle Russell Penny, 91, died Nov. 30 at The Carle Arbours, Savoy. Penny worked at the UI for 30 years as a building service worker with the Physical Plant, retiring in 1982.
Inez Belle Thompson, 90, died Dec. 27. Thompson was a cook at the UI for 21 years, retiring in 1987 from the Housing Division. Memorials: Carle Hospice Memorial Program.
Ervin V. White, 87, died Dec. 8 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. White worked as a painter for 16 years in the Housing Division until his retirement in 1980.
Robert L. Winsor Jr., 50, died Dec. 13. Winsor, a building service worker at Facilities and Services, had worked at the UI for 10 years. Memorials: American Juvenile Diabetes Association.
Richard L. Wood, 66, died Dec. 24 at his home in Thomasboro. Wood worked at the UI for seven years, retiring in 2005 as a grounds worker with Facilities and Services.
Adam R. Zak, 73, died Dec. 10 at his home in Winter Park, Fla. Zak was a professor in the aerospace engineering department for more than 30 years, retiring in 1993. His work was related to aircraft, space and military technology, which included research, military rockets and missiles. Memorials: Illinois Doberman Rescue, P.O. Box 435, Barrington, IL 60011.

A memorial service for Richard Ross Gifford will begin at 3 p.m. Jan. 17 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1700 Crescent Drive, Champaign. Gifford, 90, died Oct. 30. He worked in the Office of Capital Programs for 22 years, retiring in 1982. Memorials: Westminster Presbyterian Church.
