Charles B. Andrews, 82, died May 26 at North Shore Evanston Hospital, Evanston, Ill. Andrews worked at the UI. A memorial service will be held in late July at the First Presbyterian Church of Evanston and interment will be in Champaign in early September in the columbarium of the First Presbyterian Church of Champaign. Violet Mae Cosgrove, 89, died June 8 at Canterbury Ridge, Urbana. From 1960-1978, she worked in the UI department of health and safety and in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science.
Herbert Orin Ireland, 90, died June 3 at the Heartland Healthcare Center, Paxton. Ireland was a professor emeritus of civil engineering. He retired in 1979 after teaching at the UI for more than 30 years.
William J. Rollins, 87, died June 2 at his Urbana home. Rollins worked at the UI for 10 years as a carpenter for the Physical Plant (now Facilities and Services). Memorials: Calvary Baptist Church, 2106 E. Windsor Road, Urbana, IL 61802.
Malcolm C. Shurtleff, 87, died May 29 at his home in Pearland, Texas. Shurtleff was a UI Extension professor of plant pathology for more than 30 years, retiring in 1992. Cindee M. Skinner, 52, died June 6 at her Urbana home. Skinner had been a kitchen helper for the Housing Division since 1999. Memorials: Illinois School for the Visually Impaired, 658 E. State St., Jacksonville, IL 62650, or Camp New Hope, P.O. Box 764, Mattoon, IL 61938.
Stanley G. Smith, 78, died June 1 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Smith was a professor emeritus of chemistry. He taught at the UI for nearly 46 years, retiring in 2006. In 1990, he was appointed Jubilee Professor in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; in 1995 he was appointed the first Murchison-Mallory Chair in Chemistry. Kenneth D. Wise, 83, died June 4 at his Urbana home. Wise retired from the UI in 1988 as sub-foreman for the Garage and Car Pool. Mary Margaret Wood, 91, died June 12 at her Urbana home. Wood retired from the UI as a payroll clerk for the Facilities and Services Division. Memorials: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
Helen P. Young, 81, died May 30 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. Young worked in food service at the UI.
