Deaths

Roger Lee Adams Sr., 66, died July 9 at Canterbury Ridge, Urbana. Adams retired from the UI Police Training Institute after 25 years as facility manager. Memorials: St. Mary’s Hospital or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Dale E. Brashers, 50, died July 5 in his campus office. Brashers joined the UI faculty in 1998. He served as the director of graduate studies in the department (then called speech communication) from 2002 to 2006, and then as associate head until January 2009, when he became head of the department. Beginning in 2008, he also held a joint appointment as a professor of medicine. Memorials: Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Tupelo Children’s Mansion or the UI department of communication.

Hilary Taylor Holbrook, 54, died June 30 at her Urbana home. Holbrook worked at Campus Information Technologies and Educational Services before moving to the Office of Continuing Education as a visiting media communications specialist in 2005. Jayandran Palaniappan, 34, died May 11. He had been a postdoctoral research associate in bioengineering at the Beckman Institute since 1997. Memorials: Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention or the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression.

James Martin Skinner, 65, died June 29 at his home in Broadlands. Skinner worked in the Purchasing Division for more than 30 years, retiring as senior purchasing officer. Memorials: Broadlands Volunteer Fire Department or the Cardinals Care Organization.
