appointments as director of the Community Systems Laboratory, assistant 
professor in the department of management information systems and 
assistant scientist in the department of molecular and cell biology. He 
also previously worked for Bell Laboratories. Research: Biological data 
bases, electronic communities, collaboration technology, information 
retrieval, communications networks. He is working on the development of a
nationwide electronic library for a community of scientists in the Humane
Genome Project. Teaching: design of digital libraries. Education: BA
