Brief: Expert to talk about television violence
George Gerbner, dean emeritus of the Annenberg School of Communication at
the University of Pennsylvania, will speak Wednesday on television violence.
His MillerComm talk, "Stories That Kill: What Drives Commercial TV
Violence," is scheduled for 8 p.m. in the Foellinger Auditorium.
Gerbner, a former faculty member of the Institute of Communications
Research at the UI, is a leading authority on the effects of living with
commercial television. He appears frequently on national media in that
role. He pioneered audience and content research on the consequences of
television violence, gender discrimination in commercial television
programming, and other forms of stereotyping.
