Brief: Conflict-of-interest forms due Friday
State law and university policy require annual reporting of the
non-university income-producing activities of UI faculty and academic staff
members.
Letters and forms were sent recently to academic employees. Forms must be
returned to department heads by Friday.
Certain categories of external activities fall within the usual and
customary duties of faculty members on campus and thus do not have to be
reported. These categories are listed in the instructions for completing
the form.
As always, the employee is responsible for obtaining the prior approval of
outside activities from his or her unit executive officer.
Central administration units received the Urbana campus form and should
complete and return it to their unit heads.
Questions about the UI policy, the reporting form or the compatibility of
external activities may be directed to the conflict-of-interest hotline at
244-1154, staffed through the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research,
or Harriett Weatherford, associate vice chancellor for research, 333-0030.
Other important upcoming dates:
* Nov. 11: Departmental checklists and forms requiring further approval
due in college offices.
* Dec. 5: College offices forward departmental checklists and appropriate
forms to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research.
