Kentucky's Gross to head veterinary biosciences

David R. Gross was approved as head of the department of
veterinary biosciences in the UI College of Veterinary
Medicine by the UI Board of Trustees on March 9. He will
take office June 1.
Gross, the director of the cardiovascular and thoracic
surgery research labs and professor of surgery at the
University of Kentucky, will succeed Richard F. Bevill Jr.,
who retired. Kenneth R. Holmes has served as interim head
since Bevill's retirement.
Gross, who also will be a professor of veterinary
physiology, has been at the University of Kentucky in
Lexington since 1990. He was on the faculty at Texas A&M
University, College Station, from 1974 to 1990. He was
director of Texas A&M's applied physics lab from 1983 to
1990.
Gross earned his bachelor's and veterinary medicine degrees
from Colorado State University in 1958 and 1960,
respectively. He also earned a master's degree in 1972 and a
doctorate in 1974, both from the Ohio State University.
