Brief: Pre-retirement planning to be offered
Planning for the '90s" is the theme of the 17th annual UI
Pre-Retirement Planning Conference.
Open to all UI employees and their spouses, the free
conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 25
in Illini Rooms A and B in the Illini Union.
Conference organizers emphasize the attraction of the
information to be presented for staff members of all ages.
The principles of financial, legal and long-term health-care
planning can apply to any stage of life - from those far
from retirement to those who are counting the days until
retirement. It's also a bargain; often it can cost $70 or
more an hour to talk to such experts.
Speakers at this year's program and their topics:
* David Sinow, president of Strategic Capital Management
and adjunct professor of finance, "Financial Planning for
the '90s."
* Robert F. Rich, professor and director of the Institute
for Government and Public Affairs, "Health Care: Predictions
and Prognoses."
* John H. Elder, a Champaign attorney, "Trusts, Wills and
Estate Planning."
* Carol McClure, director of the Benefits Center,
benefits, insurance and the tax-sheltered annuity program.
* James Beedie, associate executive director of the State
Universities Retirement System, retirement benefits.
A long lunch break will allow conference participants to
browse at an Information Fair in the South Lounge.
Representatives from the business, professional and
university communities will be present to answer questions
and distribute free literature related to retirement
planning.
The conference is sponsored by the offices of the
chancellor, the provost, vice chancellor for administration
and human resources, and academic human resources; the
Personnel Services Office; the Illini Union; the Office of
Continuing Education and Public Service; the Mailing Center;
and University Food Services. Advance registration is
requested but not required for attendance.
Pre-registration forms have been mailed to most staff
members. For more information or to pre-register by phone,
