Brief: Summer research grants available
Summer Salary Research Grants, made available from an endowment to support
international projects provided in part by the William and Flora Hewlett
Foundation, will again be offered in 1996 by International Programs and
Studies.
Financial support is available for up to one-ninth of the applicant's
academic year salary, or a maximum of $3,500, whichever is less.
The grants are intended to fund both basic and applied research. To ensure
that applied research is recognized, some funds will be allocated
specifically to applied topics conducted by tenure-line faculty members.
Proposals will be judged primarily on perceived quality. Younger scholars
will be given a degree of priority. No sabbatical activities will be
supported by these grants.
Successful applicants are expected to spend full-time conducting research
during the summer and must be employed at UIUC during the subsequent
academic year.
Applications are due Nov. 1.
Additional information and applications are available from Sheila Roberts,
303 International Studies Building; 333-8331.
