Deaths
Delorse Walker-Brayfield
Delorse Walker-Brayfield, kitchen helper, died Oct. 21 at Carle Foundation
hospital. She was 44.
She worked in food service for the Housing Division.
Survivors include her husband, David; two sons; a daughter; a brother; five
sisters; and eight grandchildren.
Donald W. Smith
Donald W. Smith, former professor of media, died Oct. 28 at Lakeland
Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, Fla. He was 78.
Smith earned graduate degrees from the UI and Wayne State University.
Following World War II, he joined the UI faculty. He developed the world's
largest educational film library at the UI, where he was a technician and
projectionist for the first sound-on-films at the university.
He also taught at the University of New Hampshire, University of Michigan,
University of Missouri, Wayne State University and Michigan State
University.
He was president of the state audio visual associations in New Hampshire,
Illinois, Missouri and Michigan.
He was an original member of the U.S. Navy Seals and served as a Navy scout
officer in Africa, Italy and southern France. An underwater demolition
expert, he led landing forces onto the beaches of southern France.
Survivors include his wife, Amelia; two daughters; a sister; nine
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
