Brief: Krannert Art Museum hosts film festival

Krannert Art Museum will host the 15th annual tour of the "Thomas
Edison-Black Maria Film Festival" from 7 to 9 p.m. April 19 in the museum's
auditorium.

The festival is a special project of the Edison Media Arts Consortium, an
independent endeavor dedicated to the advancement of independent film and
videomaking. The consortium annually conducts a national competition
resulting in a selection of award-winning new experimental, documentary,
animation and narrative works.

John Columbus, the festival's founder and director, is a professor in film
at the University of the Arts, College of Art and Design, in Philadelphia.
Columbus, himself an independent filmmaker, travels with the festival for
five months to more than 60 venues across the continent. Columbus will
introduce the program with a talk on the state of independent filmmaking in
America. He also will speak briefly about each film on the schedule and
provide background information on new filmmakers.
