Brief: Election ethics examined
The Institute of Government and Public Affairs presents a public forum,
"The l 996 Presidential Election: Winning at the Expense of Ethics?," from
9 a.m. to noon April 25 in the IGPA conference room.
James D. Nowlan, IGPA Senior Fellow, moderates the forum. Featured
speakers, and their topics:
Shanto Iyengar (UCLA), author of "Going Negative: How Attack Ads Shrink and
Polarize the Electorate," will discuss "Negative Ads: Do They Work? At What
Cost?"
The Hon. Nancy Kaszak, member of the Illinois General Assembly, speaks
about "Ethics and Campaigns: A View From the Trenches"
Clarence Page, Pulitzer Prize-winning Chicago Tribune journalist-columnist,
will discuss "The Role of the Media."
Samuel Popkin, an expert on surveys and author of "The Reasoning Voter,"
will talk about "Can Polls Serve Questionable Ends?"
