Allerton celebrates anniversary with 'Community Day'

As part of the celebration for the 50th anniversary of Robert Allerton Park and Conference Center, a Community Day at the park is slated for Oct. 20, from noon to 5 p.m. A historical exhibit and an exhibit on art restoration will be at the visitor's center. Informational tables will be set up for upcoming events, membership, volunteer opportunities, class offerings, conferences and center usage. Guided trail walks of the Schroth trail will begin at 1 and 3 p.m. The program also features live music and fresh-off-the-grill box lunches.

The Monticello Herb Society will be holding a craft sale and workshops on wreath-making and Christmas ornaments. There will be a small fee for these classes and advance registration will be required by calling 333-2127. The sale and workshops benefit the new herb garden designed by the Herb Society.

Admission to the park is free. The park is located 30 miles southwest of Champaign, off Interstate 72 near Monticello.
