AIDS Awareness Week

This year's AIDS Awareness Week, which began Feb. 3 and runs through Feb. 9, features events designed to reach a broad range of people, said Deborah Richie, assistant director for academic programs in the UI housing division and the principal organizer of the week.

"The diversity of the activities this year very clearly illustrates that HIV is an issue for all of us," Richie said. "The community also has become involved in this year's awareness week and will host several events."

The remaining schedule of campus and community events:

• Through Feb. 9: Book display and information fair at Jane Addams Book Shop, 208 N. Neil St., Champaign, and Pages for All Ages Bookstore, 1749 W. Kirby Ave., Champaign.
  
  
• Through Feb. 9: Information, red ribbons and condoms, south foyer of the Illini Union.
  
  
• Feb. 6: Information fair, 5 p.m., Soul Ingredient, Oglesby Dining Room.
  
  
• Feb. 7: Showcase and discussion with the cast of "Without Pity," noon, Barnes and Noble Booksellers, 51 E. Marketview Drive, Champaign.
  
  
• Feb. 7: Chocolate Potluck, 6 p.m., OutPost Community Center, 123 Church St., Champaign; for gay and bisexual men.
  
  
• Feb. 7: "Without Pity" repeat performance, 8 p.m., Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. Admission charge.
  
  
• Feb. 9: "Straight Talk," WBCP-AM (1580), 10 to 11 a.m., discussion with Mildred Williamson, Cook County Hospital Women and Children's HIV/AIDS Program.
  
  
• Feb. 9: Gospelfest, 4 p.m., Salem Baptist Church, 500 E. Park Ave., Champaign; speaker, Mildred Williamson.
  
  
• Feb. 9: Candlelight vigil, 6 p.m., main lobby, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.
