The mission of the Illini Union Parent Programs Office, in collaboration with the Moms Association and Dads Association, is to help UI parents and families develop the skills necessary to become effective coaches and mentors to their students by providing high-quality, accessible communications, tools, resources and services. The goal of the office is to build long-term relationships with UI families, students and the university that promote a positive “Illinois Experience.”

The Illini Union draws together all members of the UI community. It is the shared possession of students, faculty and staff members, alumni and guests. Students who create programs and activities on behalf of the Illini Union Board complement their education with experience in group process, ethics, leadership, volunteerism and social responsibility. Students who attend the programs and participate in the activities also enrich their education with the learning, growth and entertainment such events offer.

The Office of Minority Student Affairs works to create and sustain a strong support network for students by collaborating and partnering with liaison deans and academic advisers campuswide to offer services, programs and events for students. OMSA coordinates more than a dozen programs and services to ensure the academic success of students who have been admitted to Illinois through the Educational Opportunities Program or the President’s Award Program, as well as underrepresented students, and those who are economically disadvantaged and/or first-generation college students.
